"It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living."

Hello February!

I've been working really hard on this all week. When I showed Sunny the photo that I was going to use to draw her, I gave her the choice of me drawing her sitting on a mushroom, in a tree, or on the moon. She was very specific that she wanted to be sitting on a tree branch with birdies next to her, and that a squirrel (she got a chipmunk) and a fox be in the picture also. I think I got all of that (plus, I got my mushrooms!) I've been excited to post this, so I hope that you have a moment to take a closer look. Thanks! :)
It's a bit hard to read here (I figured this would be an issue.) Here is what it says:
"As a child, one has that magical capacity to move among many eras of the earth; to see the land as an animal does; to experience the sky from the perspective of a flower or a bee; to feel the earth quiver and breath beneath us; to know a hundred different smells of mud and listen unselfconsciously to the soughing of the trees."
~Valerie Andrews

That look in her eyes is pure trouble!

I never would have thought that I would find the color of my gloves in nature in the middle of winter!

Sitting in the hockey goal at the ice skating rink while S tries to peg me with snowballs!

Sunny was excited to follow all sorts of tracks through the woods.

We were finally able to get out for a short nature walk the other day. It's a good thing too, because the temperatures have now dropped below zero and it is bitterly cold outside! The month of January was brutal on us, as it was for many others in our area. S and I volleyed viruses and sickness back and forth for weeks. We also both came down with a nasty cough that I wouldn't have wished on any of you. I'm not much for doctors or over the counter medicine, but just when I thought I was getting better...I got worse. Sunny fared a bit better than I did, thankfully. I had such low energy that I was doing my best just to get through the day. I'm usually a late night blogger, it's not uncommon for me to be up as late as midnight or 2am. I found myself in bed as early as 10pm most evenings, too exhausted to do much of anything other than read before bed. As these things go, I finally dragged myself to urgent care and got some antibiotics. I'm so happy to be kicking the month of January out the door, and to be greeting February with health and much vigor!

I must ask, how have you been?

  3. I believe you have captured the magic that happens between nature and child. Children are so close to nature, I'm not sure when they grow distant from each other, but my inner child certainly can relate to your painting! Beautiful!
Here is to a healthy and happy February:)
    Hugs,

    1. Thank you for the comment ShannonAnn, always good to hear from you! I'm hoping Sunny can hold onto her love of nature, and carry it with her through adulthood. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
