Random Acts of Kindness

The amazing thing about social media networks, such as fb, is that they allow you to reconnect with some amazing people from your past. A classmate of mine (from eons ago) has spent the last 15 years kicking off her holiday season by performing random acts of kindness every December 1st. This year she made it an "event" on fb that over 900 people attended. I think she deserves some sort of an award for spreading all that kindness!

I had high hopes when I first read about the event. I started off my week with some fabulous daydreams of different ways to perform acts of kindness on strangers....but as these things go, it was a rough week. I didn't think that I was going to be able to pull anything off today but my little one insisted. So, it's not what I had originally planned but it did put a smile on my daughter's face and gave us something to feel really good about. We went to Target and bought a pack of candy canes and hot chocolate (with marshmallows, very important!) and we made up about 15 bags to pass out to any kids that we saw in the store. They were thrilled and even parents were smiling and saying thank you, Merry Christmas as we walked away. We even had one family of five hollering thank you as we walked to the other end of the store. It was a lot fun! We had a few bags left, so we went to the grocery store and gave one to the bell ringer, a few more kids, and our cashier. The cashier was so happy, she said she had never gotten a gift such as that and she would bring it home and put it under her tree. She was really thankful, it was so sweet. I think we put a smile and hopefully a little warmth in some hearts this evening, I know that it certainly made our day!

Have  you performed any random acts of kindness lately, or has anyone performed one for you?
Please share if so, I would love to hear about them!

  1. We had a blast Trish! We are considering making up a bunch of these bags to keep in the car this winter. Sunny has no problem with shyness or passing them out to the other kiddos! :)
