"It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living."

tired but happy.

It was suppose to be 45 degrees and sunny all day and I needed to feel that sunshine on my face, to breathe in the fresh crisp air. To leave all the holiday hoopla behind us for a few hours. It was pure bliss.
We headed back out to the state park. S was crabby before we hit the trail, saying she wanted to be carried. It's like a light switch with her, the minute her feet hit the dirt trail, she was all smiles and giggles.
She was never carried once in two hours. She stopped at one point and called me to her saying, "look mom, it's moss!!" she bent down to feel it's softness on her bare hand and I asked her if I might take a picture.
She said, "nah, there's just so much more to see mom, let's go!" Yes, of course, so much to see.
Her favorite part is always the beach. She loves to skip rocks (and now ice) into the water with her daddy. Such a treat in mid December to be able to get out and enjoy a day in the woods. It didn't get to 45 degrees, but we weren't freezing either. It's so strange for me to witness so much brown this time of year.
*I'm still hoping for a soft snow to fall.*
On our way out of the park, we hiked up the 60 plus steps to get back to our car. Sunny walked every single step with a smile. When we reached the very top, I asked her how she was doing and she replied,
"Well, I'm tired...but...I'm happy!" Music to a mama's ears. She is so wise, my little love.
Those words of hers I will try to remember and carry with me when the days begin to wear me down.
When I feel it a burden to take even the smallest of steps forward.
Sometimes all that is really needed in life is to feel the sunshine reach all way to the tips of your toes.
and
to see
sunny's smile.
It's so, so good for the soul.
Peace to all of you this holiday season.
